Ranked number 25 in the world, Karin
Schnaase, defeated Ukraine's Marija Ulitina in the final played in Arlamow,
Poland. The final scores were 21-19, 21-15.
Spots at Baku 2015, European Games,
will be allocated on 26 March when the next Badminton World Federation rankings
will be released. Both Schnasse and Ulitina have confirmed spots in the
upcoming games in Azerbaijan.
The world number 87 Ulitina had a
strong showing in Poland beating Denmark's Anna Thea Madsen, ranked 36th in the
world and who will be one of the top seven players at Baku 2015.
While Ulitina's spot in Azerbaijan
was all-but secured even before the Polish Open, Latvia's Monika Radovska will
likely come up just short in her effort to reach Baku 2015. Radovska trailed
compatriot Kristine Sefere 6,143 points to 6,100 in the rankings going into the
Polish Open. Radovska did beat Estonian Helina Rüütel in the first round before
losing to Russia's Anastasia Chervyakova in the second round.

In the women's doubles, Russian world
number 27 duo Chervyakova and Nina Vislova reached the quarter-finals, which
should be enough to qualify for Baku 2015 as they led world number 28
compatriots Evgeniya Kosetskaya and Ekaterina Bolotova 33,230 points to 33,024
going into the Polish Open. Kosetskaya and Bolotova advanced to the Polish Open
semi-finals. India's Pradnya Gadre and N. Siki Reddy won the women's doubles
title.
In the men's doubles tournament,
local hopefuls and top seed Adam Cwalina and Przemyslaw Wacha advanced to the
final, where they lost to Japanese Kenta Kazuno and Kazushi Yamada. Cwalina and
Wacha, who will compete at #Baku-2015, missed a chance to win their third
straight title on home turf.
Malaysia's Daren Liew won the men's singles title, beating Denmark's
Emil Holst in the final, 21-15, 21-11.
