Stockport Grammar School has down Cranleigh by 1-0 in the final at Olympic Park.
Lauren Hunt scored the only goal of the game after two minutes, and a brilliant team performance in a tense match saw the girls win the title for the first time in the school’s history.
The squad, captained by Meghan Myers, were appearing in the finals for the second year in a row after winning the north of England title in November.
Head of hockey Miss Sharon Withington said the girls couldn’t have given any more:
Having not seen the trophy in the north for over 20 years it is an absolute delight to be crowned national champions.
The girls faced some really tough opposition and not one of them could have given any more on the pitch. Maya Gordon in goals made a string of outstanding saves in every match to keep the scorelines in our favour – she was simply outstanding.
I would like to thank the school and governors for all of their support and, most of all, the parents who all travelled to London to spur us along on a very special couple of days.
